Ajouré MEN Magazin

In an interview with the director, we talked about his current movie "Lovin' Amsterdam" and were able to elicit one or two Amsterdam tips for your next short trip.

Ajouré: At the end of April, your culture clash comedy "Lovin' Amsterdam" will be released on German TV. What is the movie about?
It's about the 30-year-old, mercilessly organized lawyer Max, who wanted to break out of his bourgeois life in Kassel and emigrated to Amsterdam. Our movie starts on the day when his parents show up at his door unannounced with the mission to bring him back. It is the same morning that he meets the chaotic and bubbly Dutch girl Sophie, who turns his life upside down.

Ajouré: What excites you personally about the story or this topic?
I find it exciting when different worlds collide. I also like comedies that are based on a functioning drama, that take the conflicts and problems of the main characters seriously. If that's coherent, you can let off steam on the comedic side.

Ajouré: How much time did you spend filming in Amsterdam?
I was in Amsterdam for a total of just over two months for preparation and shooting.

Ajouré: You were there for the first time for the movie. What makes the city so special to you?
I like the easy-going, tolerant and cosmopolitan nature of the Dutch. No matter where you come from, they welcome you warmly. At least that's the feeling I had in Amsterdam. You can laugh heartily with them, and at the same time they are very enthusiastic. Our crew consisted of both German and Dutch colleagues. They embraced the German way of working with a lot of verve. (laughs) But you can't speak of a culture clash within the creation process. Everything went very harmoniously.

Ajouré: With which three adjectives would you describe Amsterdam?
Cosmopolitan, warm-hearted, fun-loving... and I immediately think of bicycles. (laughs)

Ajouré: What are the must-sees and must-dos in Amsterdam for you and what insider travel tips can you give?
Must-dos: Definitely rent a bike and fight your way through the sympathetic madness of this city. True to the motto: The journey is more exciting than the destination. Once you should go up the long narrow stairs in one of the narrow houses. This is a great experience, too, but not for the claustrophobic. Must-sees: A walk through the city center, past the canals, with the rustic houseboats... it's a dream. You can go out for a good meal and always find a cozy bar where you meet open-minded people and quickly strike up a conversation.

Ajouré: Thank you, Florian.
